Day of Immunology 2006

The first Day of Immunology (DoI) was held April 29, 2005 in more than 30 European states with great success. An impressive variety of activities with broad media coverage reached large numbers of people all over Europe, and strengthened public awareness of immunology as a basis for individual health and well-being. In 2006, the DoI will ask immunologists to focus on teachers, schools and students of all ages. Avian flu, AIDS, vaccination, and personal well-being are questions of great concern to young and adolescent people all over Europe.

In a joint action, the European Federation of Immunological Societies (EFIS) will foster Partnerships in Immunology and Education ( Food for Thought - P I E) and will prepare a special website for school use.
An invitation to the EFIS congress (European Congress of Immunology) in Paris, September 6–9 2006, will be awarded to the most original submission (Prize).

The DoI is coordinated by the vice President of EFIS, Stefan H.E. Kaufmann and colleagues at the Max-Planck-Institute for Infection Biology.
