The Day of Immunology 2006 had the educational aim to acquaint the society with the urgent problems of nowadays, such as bird flu, vaccination, improvement of life quality and others that are common to all Europeans. To discuss these problems the Lithuanian Society of Immunology together with the Academy of Sciences of Lithuania organized a conference on “The Possibility of the Outbreak of Infectious Diseases”, that was held at the Institute of Experimental and Clinical Medicine on April 28, 2006.

Two reports were delivered on pandemic and bird flu. A study was presented on the analysis of  the immunity of Lithuanians to the infectious diseases monitored by vaccination programmes and the effectivity of vaccination. The participants of the conference, i.e. scientists,  doctors and teachers were actively taking part in the event.  At the end of the gathering it was decided to organize special lectures for students and schoolchildren on infectional immunity, vaccines, their development and application.
